Cats seem to have over 100 vocal cords. Their distant cousins, lions and tigers use the vocal cords fine-tunning to roar, proclaiming the extent of their territory. 

Comparing to cats, dogs have ten times less vocal cords, but instead they have mastered the art of mime.
