The South Downs National Park features dramatically contrasting scenery, from the chalk ridge of the South Downs to the heavily wooded vales of the western Weald.
With over 39 million visitors a year, the South Downs National Park Authority carefully balances conservation and preservation with opportunities for recreation and sport. Popular activities include walking, cycling, sightseeing and exploring the beautiful landscape. More adventurous activities include mountain-boarding, water sports and even hang-gliding.
The South Downs Way is a National Trail that spans the entire length of the Park from Winchester to Eastbourne and various events are held along its route annually.
