The name Restonica comes from the Corsican ‘resta unica’ (she remains unique), thought to refer to the one river that continued to flow in times of drought. But the name could equally apply to the scenery, which is amongst the most picturesque on the island of Corsica. Its glacial gorges are carved into the granite cliffs covered in lush green pine forests.
The Restonica River flows through the forests and gorges to scattered pools and lakes, including Corsica’s largest glacial lake, Lac de Melo, which is accessible to hikers who are prepared for the rather strenuous, and in some places steep, path.
