Bretton Country Park lies in West Bretton near Wakefield and covers 500 acres of lakes and parkland. Around 100 acres (40 ha) has been designated a Local Nature Reserve and Bretton Hall itself is a Grade II* listed building.
The park also houses the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which offers open air self-guided tours of sculptures by some of world’s finest modern and contemporary artists.
The River Dearne runs through the parkland and there is a lakeside perimeter walk and formal gardens to explore. Picnicking facilities are also available. For longer distance walkers, the Barnsley Boundary Walk and Dearne Way both also run through the area.
