Cockington Country Park is on what’s known as the English Riviera. It consists of a 17th century manor house, Cockington Court, set in 460 acres of parkland and is situated about 1.6 km (1 mi) from Torquay sea front.
The estate contains 34 buildings and structures listed for their architectural or historic importance, including the Drum Inn, part-designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is a recognised Local Wildlife Site, with notable species including nationally important populations of the Cirl Bunting and Barn Owl.
There are marked walking trails through fields, woods and the parkland; the latter also features formal gardens and an arboretum, as well as three lakes with a lakeside walk. The park is also part of the Agatha Christie Literary Trail.
