About Dalehead Tarn

About Dalehead Tarn

Dalehead Tarn stands in the North Western Fells on the eastern flank of Dale Head at an elevation of 498 m (1,634 ft) just east of Dale Head. The ascent of this fell is a steep climb, so the tarn makes a welcome place to stop and rest, despite being only small and shallow (its depth is only approximately 1 m / 3 ft). It features a variety of flora, including water horsetail, sedge and bogbean. The quickest route of ascent direct to the tarn is from Honister Pass, but it can also be approached from the long ridge that runs from Catbells to High Spy.
