About Huangguoshu Waterfall

Huangguoshu Waterfall in China is one of the most beloved tourist attractions in the Guizhou Province. As one of the largest falls in China and even East Asia it is certainly one of the most impressive. Located on the Baishui River, the waterfall’s total height is 77.8 m (255 ft) and it is 101 m (265 ft) wide.

The name literally translates as ‘Yellow Fruit Tree’, a name seemingly based on legend as there are no yellow fruit trees nearby. Located in Huangguoshu National Park, the waterfall is just one of a cluster of 18 falls in the park.

Activities

Visitors to the park can experience the natural beauty of the waterfall up close by descending down a well-maintained stone stairway or taking the cable train.

Huangguoshu is at its finest during the rainy season of May to October. The flow is very powerful and the thundering water can be heard from miles away. If the sun is shining, striking rainbows appear in the mist of the Rhinoceros Pool below the waterfall.

Visitors to Huangguoshu Waterfall can experience its beauty and power at different angles from designated viewing points. There is also a circular trail which leads visitors even closer to the waterfall, offering unprecedented views from the cliff top and the other side of the river. The trail also leads to Water-Curtain Cave (Shuiliandong in Chinese) behind the waterfall, allowing visitors a breathtaking opportunity to experience the fall in a completely unique way.
