These are four of the beaches that stretch along Mounts Bay in Cornwall. Wherrytown is a large pebble beach, safe for swimming. Penzance Promenade Beach, as its name suggests, stretches the length of the promenade for about 1.6 km (1 mi). This is mostly shingle, with a few small sandy patches. It's particularly appealing for rock pooling and snorkelling at higher tides. Heliport Beach is sandy and features national and international sailing and wind surfing competitions at times during the year. It is also popular with cyclists and walkers. Marazion is sandy with a few patches of pebbles. The clean waters are safe for swimming and there is equipment hire and training for wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing. Saint Michael's Mount, a tidal island, is accessible by causeway at low tide and by small boat trips at other times.
