About Regent's Canal

About Regent's Canal

Regent’s Canal runs from the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal at Little Venice to Limehouse Basin, which joins onto the Tidal Thames and Limehouse Cut.

It is 13.8 km long (8.6 mi) and has 13 locks. Between Old Ford and Mile End (locks 8 and 9), it is joined by the Hertford Union Canal, which is 2 km (1.3 mi) long and has three locks, joining the River Lee Navigation just above Old Ford Locks.

Often tucked away behind London’s busy streets, it is an oasis of calm for boaters, walkers and cyclists. En route, it passes such landmarks as London Zoo and Camden Market, as well as quieter stretches of water.

It also forms part of the London Ring, which includes a stretch along the tidal Thames.
