About The Regent’s Park

The Regent’s Park, one of London’s eight Royal Parks, lies in northern Central London in the City of Westminster and the London Borough of Camden. It covers 395 acres (1.6 km2), 100 acres of which are dedicated to the playing of sports; making it the largest outdoor sports area in central London. The park also hosts the Open Air Theatre, London Zoo and Primrose Hill.

Fauna and Flora

The park is a magnet for bird watchers, with at least 200 species listed, including a pair of nesting Peregrine Falcons and a heronry by the boating lake featuring over 20 nesting pairs annually, one of the largest Grey Heron colonies in London. The Regent’s Park is also the centre for waterfowl breeding for the Royal Parks and there are over 650 waterfowl on the Boating Lake.

Towards the southern end of the park lies Queen Mary’s Gardens, a stunning array of over 30,000 roses of 400 different varieties.

Activities

Rowing boats and pedalos are available for hire and use on the boating lake from April to September; and there are separate facilities on the children’s lake for pedalo hire at weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

The Hub is an outdoor sports facility, featuring organized sports and facilities for hire for rugby, softball, football, cricket, lacrosse; tennis and netball courts, a running track and ‘free play’ areas for informal games.

There are recommended running routes to suit a range of fitness and abilities. Cycling is allowed on all 7.2 km (4.5 miles) of the park’s roads.

How to get there

The park lies in close proximity to three London Underground stations (Regent’s Park, Baker Street and Great Portland Street) and two railway stations, Camden Road and Marylebone.
