This sand and shingle gently sloping beach lies at the mouth of the Thames and Medway estuaries. It is backed by a promenade, which forms part of the area's sea defences, and a large green open space, ideal for games and picnicking. There is a wide range of activities on offer around the beach, including skateboard ramps and a climbing wall, as well as traditional seaside amusements. From the beach itself, visitors enjoy bathing, sailing, wind surfing and fishing. The beach is Marine Conservation Society Recommended and has in the past won a Quality Coast Award.
