About Tarn at Leaves

About Tarn at Leaves

Lying at an elevation of 498 m (1,636 ft) and with an approximate depth of 4.9 m (16 ft), Tarn at Leaves is on Rosthwaite Fell, located just below Bessyboot, the Wainwright summit. Wainwright said of the tarn that it ‘has a lovely name but no other appeal’, and certainly it has its drawbacks - it sits in boggy ground; is fringed with rushes; and there are no fish in these waters. However, it is easy to access from Seatoller, Seathwaite or Stonethwaite and on reaching it, there are attractive views north down the valley. Also wild swimming and camping are possible in the area.
