This pebbled beach slopes steeply down towards the sea, a more level part only being revealed when the tide is out. There is shingle to the rear and a Victorian seafront promenade runs behind.
Popular activities here include swimming; and sea fishing by anglers all year round: the water quality has been judged excellent and it comes Marine Conservation Society Recommended. Two of three Martello Towers in Hythe, built as a defence against possible invasion by Napoleon, still stand on the beach and are owned by the Ministry of Defence.
