About St Mary's Bay (Devon) Beach

About St Mary's Bay Beach (Devon)

This large, sandy beach remains fairly quiet all year round due to lack of formal facilities and steep access via steps from the coastal path. Sharkham Point, a headland, overlooks the beach, from which the views of the Heritage coastline and the fishing are good. On this Marine Conservation Society Recommended beach, activities include fossil hunting, swimming, scuba diving and snorkelling. It's a short walk from here to Berry Head, a National and Local Nature Reserve, through a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which contains several rare and threatened plants and extensive seabird colonies of guillemots, razor bills and black-legged kittiwakes along the cliffs.
