It is one of the finest of the limestone dales in the care of English Nature, being located in Derbyshire, England. It is passed by the River Lathkill, which is rises just below Monyash and is a famous trout fishing river. In sides, the top part of the dale is a little bit narrow and part-filled with spoil from Ricklow Quarry. The quarry was worked for a stone called Derbyshire marble and now is abandoned. The area is rich in wild flowers, in spring can be covered with orchids and cowlips.
