About Loch Achilty

About Loch Achilty

This is a small but picturesque lake, covering around 100 acres and surrounded by sloping birch and oakwoods.  Loch Achilty is stocked with brown, rainbow, brook and orrin blue trout, as well as arctic charr. There are nine boats available for hire. The loch is stocked regularly with fish by the local fishery in Strathpeffer.

There is a delightful pebble beach with picnic spots, concealed among the silver birch, and plenty to see and do in this area, for example, visiting Rogie Falls and walking along the forest tracks in Contin and Blackmuir Wood. No public transport runs to the Loch, so it is accessible on foot or by vehicle only from a small road just west of the Contin village, when travelling from Inverness.
