About Loch Oich

Loch Oich is a narrow, freshwater loch situated between Loch Ness to the northeast and Loch Lochy to the southwest, near Invergarry, Highland, Scotland. It forms part of the Caledonian Canal, of which the lake is the highest point, just over 30 metres (100 feet) above see level. The loch is fed by the River Garry from the west, and feeds the River Oich from its northern end. From the lake's eastern shore you will get stunning views across the water towards the surrounding mountains, including Ben Tee and Aonach Mor.

It is rich in wildlife, with a large variety of fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals. Every autumn, the Atlantic salmon migrates from the sea using Loch Oich, Loch Lochy and Loch Ness as their spawning nests. Fishing enthusiasts can expect good catches, including trout and pike amongst others.

Swimming isn't recommended due to cold temperatures throughout much of the year but other outdoor activities are available for visitors looking to explore the region. Hiking trails around the loch offer some truly spectacular scenery, with opportunities to spot wildlife such as red deer and golden eagles.
