Loch Shiel

Loch Shiel is located near Fort William, in Lochaber, Highland, Scotland. Its maximum length is 18.2 km (11.3 miles), the surface is 19.6 square km (7.6 square miles) and the maximum depth is 120 m (393 feet). Along its length its nature changes, being deep and surrounded by mountains in the north east part and shallow, enclosed by bog, in the south west. The enclosing hills are stunning but infrequently scrambled. This lake is the place of the fictional Black Lake near Hogwarts, in the Harry Potter series. Accesible solely by boat, the loch is one of Scotland's most historically meaningful and unspoiled natural wealth.
