About Lyme Regis Beaches (Front & Church Cliff)

About Lyme Regis Beaches (Front & Church Cliff)

Front (or Town) Beach is flat and sandy in places, pebbled in others. More pebbles have recently been imported to increase coastal protection and provide better access to the beach area. It is backed by the promenade and at the southern end lies the harbour and Cobb (an ancient harbour wall). Church, or Church Cliff, Beach, also has patches of sand, but the major draws are fossils. As part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, mining for fossils is not allowed, but frequent cliff falls reveal new ones all the time. There are also many rock pools for shrimping.
