Rutland Water Nature Reserve comprises 9 miles of the reservoir’s western shoreline and covers a total area of 404 hectares (1,000 acres).

Nature trails and bird watching hides allow visitors to become acquainted with the vast wildlife of the reserve. Visitors can explore the beautiful landscape and learn all there is to know about the bird species living there at the Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre. Recreational activities are abundant too, particularly at the Reservoir which has been affectionately dubbed the playground of the East Midlands. Visitor activities include water sports, cycling, hiking, boat cruises and an outdoor adventure centre.
