The main beach in Ryde is sandy and comes recommended by the Marine Conservation Society. The tide goes out a long way here: the harbour is only accessible by water at high tide, and swimming is best at mid to high tide, when there isn't so long a walk to reach the water! There are plenty of activities for children, including a play area, paddling pool and boating lake, as well as traditional seaside amusements. Towards the eastern end, activities include kite surfing, wind surfing and jet skiing. There are fine views across the Solent to Portsmouth and a promenade for strolling on.
