Silecroft has the only designated beach lying within the Lake District National Park. Black Combe fell with an elevation of 600m (1,969ft) overlooks it. The beach stretches for over 4.8km (3mi) and is mainly sand with some shingle at the top end, providing ideal conditions for a variety of activities, including angling, kite flying, horse riding, kite surfing, sea kayaking and swimming. Not surprisingly, given its location, there are a good number of hikes and walks possible, including a coastal path. A Site of Special Scientific Interest is adjacent and the beach itself is Marine Conservation Society Recommended and has won a Quality Coast Award.
