After 400 years in the Egerton family, Tatton Park was bequeathed to the National Trust who administer it with Cheshire East Council. The estate is one of the most complete of its kind to be open to the public. As well as the family mansion and a manor house of medieval origins, the estate features a landscaped deer park of 8.1 km2 (2000 ac), around half of which is available for public use for walking, cycling, horse riding, sailing and fishing.
There are glasshouses, formal, Italian and Japanese gardens to explore and a working farm preserved in 1930s condition with rare farm animal breeds.
