Around 2 km (1.2 mi) from centre of Bristol, Ashton Court Country Park covers 850 acres of woodland and grassland with a Grade I listed mansion at its heart.
The grounds were originally landscaped by Humphrey Repton for the Smyth family, the original owners, and are Grade II* listed. A large portion of the estate is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, notably for its populations of rare woodland beetles. Ashton Court Meadow is managed as a nature reserve and hosts many wild flowering plants. There is a woodland garden and natural play area with picnicking facilities.
The site also features a deer park and there are horse riding and mountain biking trails with bike hire available. A permanent orienteering course and a 4.8 km (3 mi) marked running route runs around the estate. The park is also known for its annual ballooning and kite festivals.
