About Blea Tarn (Langdale - Lingmoor Fell)

About Blea Tarn

This is one of the more accessible tarns in the Lakeland area, as it is in close proximity to a car park and offers a trail suitable for all ages and abilities running around the lake. It stands on a raised area between Great Langdale and Little Langdale at a height of 478 m (1,568 ft) and was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1989 for its importance for palaeo-environmental studies. Its depth is around 13 m (43 ft) and fishing is permitted for brown trout, perch and pike. The location against a backdrop of the Langdale Pikes to the north makes Blea Tarn highly popular with artists and photographers.
