About Clacton Beach

This is a great family beach, sandy with some shingle, which shelves gently into the sea. Clacton is situated on Essex’s ‘sunshine coast’ and boasts more recorded hours of sunshine than any other south coast resort. The main attraction is the pier, built in 1871, which hosts a fair and other amusements.

Day permits for sea fishing from the pier in a designated area are available. Swimming, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing and jet-skiing all take place in the Marine Conservation Society Recommended sea. Themed gardens line the upper promenade. Unsurprisingly, the beach and surrounding areas get very busy on sunny days.
