The beach itself is sand and shingle. Activities on the water include swimming, canoeing and kayaking, wind surfing, sailing and jet skiing. Fishing is good, with the Pier being regarded as one of the best sea fishing spots along the Tendring coast (day and season tickets available). The water quality is acceptable.
