This stretch of beach near Clacton-on-Sea is most famous for the Clacton Pier, which was first opened in 1871. It is a traditional seaside resort with many of the usual entertainments nearby and is therefore regarded as being very good for families.
The beach itself is sand and shingle. Activities on the water include swimming, canoeing and kayaking, wind surfing, sailing and jet skiing. Fishing is good, with the Pier being regarded as one of the best sea fishing spots along the Tendring coast (day and season tickets available). The water quality is acceptable.
