Drake's Island is a small island situated in Plymouth, Devon, England. It has a surface of 6.5 acres (2.6 ha) and contains militaru barracks and buildings from the Napoleonic era. Formerly known as St. Nicholas's island, it has been continuously fortified since the construction of a small fort during the 16th century. The single significant historical characterics of the island are its fortification. It presents many forts and military buildings dating from 1550 to 1945. The island is a roosting and breeding site for little egrets. The island is not opened to visitors and it has no inhabitants.
