The Dudley Canal passes through Dudley and there are two main sections: Line Number 1 runs from Tipton Junction to Delph Bottom Lock and is 7.4 km (4.6 mi) long with 12 locks.
It includes the infamous Dudley Tunnel (2.9 km / 1.8 mi), a long and claustrophobic yet dramatic stretch through limestone caverns – there are guided boat trips for visitors to explore this. Line number 2 runs from Park Head Junction to Hawne Basin, where it currently terminates. This is 8.9 km (5.9 mi) long and has no locks.
The canal forms part of the Stourport Ring and is very popular with holiday-makers for cruising. Walkers and cyclists can explore this ‘green corridor’ through the urban landscape by walking the towpath, home to increasing populations of wildlife. At several points, the path links with other walking trails around Dudley. Angling is also permitted.
