About Folkestone Beach

About Folkestone Beach

The south-facing Folkestone beaches are located in a bay backed by cliffs and look out across the Channel towards France. Sunny Sands is renowned for being the closest sandy beach to London and slopes gently into the sea, making it ideal for children. Other areas are more shingly and pebbled, good for rock pooling and fossil hunting.

Folkestone beach is Marine Conservation Society Recommended for the quality of its waters and good for surfing, swimming and fishing. An area of land between the beach and cliffs forms Lower Leas Coastal Park, which features a large children’s play area and a wild zone for nature lovers.
