About Fontburn Reservoir

About Fontburn Reservoir

This small body of water is used as a drinking water reservoir and is situated close to the village of Rothbury in Tyneside. It is stocked with trout from a nearby fish farm run by the reservoir owner, Northumbrian Water. There is also a fully-equipped shop selling fishing equipment.

The reservoir is very family-friendly and has disabled access. A walk around the perimeter is around 5.6 km (3.5 mi) and can be muddy in places in wet weather. There is a picnicking area and nearby, some Bronze Age remains. The surrounding area is very popular with hill walkers and features an abundance of wildlife, including a healthy reptile and amphibian population – you may see a common lizard, adder, slow worm or grass snake, in addition to newts, toads and frogs.
