This country estate in Derbyshire covers 2,500 acres of parkland, woodland, wetland and farmland. The Elizabethan house at its heart is open to the public and houses an impressive collection of 16th century furniture and paintings, notably huge tapestries.
The gardens to the main house include herbaceous borders, enclosed vegetable and herb gardens, decorative gardens and an orchard. Around the wider estate, there are scenic circular parkland walks, including a 6.5 km (4 mi) trail around the Hardwick Estate, which take in the main historic sites and an array of wildlife – notably, the country park is home to rare breeds of cattle and sheep.
