About Heysham Beaches (Sands & Half Moon Bay)

Heysham is a large coastal village overlooking Morecambe Bay. Half Moon Bay is a sheltered beach with a large expanse of sand at low tide. It has an acceptable water quality. There is a harbour from where passenger ferries leave for Douglas and Belfast and a nuclear power station (one of two in Heysham) nearby.

A grassed area is available for picnicking and outdoor play. Middleton Sands beach is also sandy and, at low tide, covers an area of almost 6.5 km (4 mi), which is sometimes used for land-boarding, kite buggying and kite surfing.
