About Ilfracombe Beaches (Hele, Wildersmouth & Tunnels)

Hele Beach is a small sandy cove with plenty of rock pools, located on the edge of Ilfracombe. Its sheltered position is great for sunbathing, or for something more active like swimming, canoeing, sailing, jet skiing and wind surfing.

Wildersmouth (also known as Capstone Beach) is a shingle and sand beach backed by high-sided cliffs. It’s a quiet, peaceful beach.

Tunnels Beach is surrounded by cliffs. The sheltered, grey sand and shingle beach can be approached by a series of tunnels hand-carved into the rock. A small entrance fee applies, but once on the beach itself, there are a wide range of activities available, including a Victorian tidal bathing pool, swimming, snorkelling, fishing, boating, rock pooling and sun bathing on the sheltered sands.
