About Saunton Sands

About Saunton Sands

This spectacularly beautiful beach has played a starring role in many films and music videos. A popular longboard surfing destination and family seaside resort, Saunton features golden sands and great surf. Situated in North Devon, Saunton Sands is at the centre of North Devon Biosphere Reserve, an elected UNESCO site.

The 8.5 km (5.25 mi) stretch of sand is framed by a backdrop of striking dunes. Known as Braunton Burrows, this is the largest sand dune system in England. Many unusual plants and wildlife have made this unique habitat their home. The beloved beach is a popular attraction during the summer months.

Activities include the ordinary; picnicking, paddling, sunbathing and the adventurous; kite surfing, paddle boarding and kayaking. The beach can get busy during peak periods, but it is large and there is plenty of space for avid sunbathers.
