Langsett Reservoir is around 1.6 km (1 mi) long and lies on the edge of the Peak District National Park. There is a very pleasing walk around the reservoir through woodland and open moorland, with spectacular views from higher grounds, especially from the abandoned farm curiously known as North America to the south of the reservoir, the ruins of which were used by tanks for target practice during the Second World War. The pathways in the area are all well-maintained and adequately signed by the landowners, Yorkshire Water, and the land surrounding the reservoir is extensively used by mountain bikers and bird watchers.
