Llyn Celyn is a wide reservoir located in the valley of the River Tryweryn at the bottom of the Arenig Mountains near the town of Bala, in the Gwynedd region, Wales. It is 4 km (2.5 miles) long and its maximum depth reaches 43 m (140 feet). The reservoir was built in 1960s, in order to maintain the flow in the River Dee, so that the drinking water could be abstracted further downstream as part of the regulation scheme. Constructing the reservoir included flooding the village of Capel Celyn and the surrounding farmland.
