Loch Leven is the largest lowland loch in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Loch Leven Castle can be found here, where Mary Queen of Scots was held captive between June 1567 and May 1568. The castle can be reached by ferry.
The loch makes part of the word-famous Loch Leven National Nature Reserve, a true international hub for birds. Almost all of the world’s population of pink footed geese winter in Britain and Loch Leven provides important autumn and spring staging posts. Throughout the winter there are several thousand migratory wildfowl including pochard, whooper swan, tufted duck and teal.
The unique and diverse scenery of the area around the loch draws many hiking enthusiasts. The loch has a couple of islands, St Serf's Inch being the widest.
