About Loch Morlich

Loch Morlich is a fresh water loch surrounded by sandy beaches, located near Aviemore, Highland, Scotland. It is home to a watersports centre for kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. A yacht club and cycling tracks can also be found around the loch. It lies at the bottom of the Cairngorms mountains, being surrounded by forests and fringed by beaches, with an amazing backdrop of the often snow-clad summits. Looking closely, the sand of the beaches presents large amounts of broken glass, but this glass does not come from careless visitors - it originates from the Second World War, when the region around the loch was used as a training zone.
