A shingle and rock beach backed by the wooded hills of Exmoor National Park, Lynmouth Beach is favoured by families. There are many rock pools and a tidal swimming pool at the eastern end, enabling safe swimming for children. Experienced surfers are drawn here when the conditions are right. Fishing from the rocky headlands is also popular. The beach is Marine Conservation Society Recommended and lies on the South West Coast Path. An old water operated cliff railway, dating back to the 19th century, runs from here to neighbouring Linton, where there is also a beach.
