About Mealt Waterfall

About Mealt Waterfall

Mealt Waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Scotland. Emerging from Loch Mealt, a freshwater loch on the eastern side of the Trotternish peninsula in the Isle of Skye, it plummets about 100m (328ft) straight down into the sea from Kilt Rock. Here there are 55m (180ft) tall sea cliffs, which provide excellent views of the falls from above. As well as the sight of the waterfall, on some days the vista is enhanced with a haunting yet beautiful sound as the wind blows through the fencing that surrounds the lookout points.

The loch itself is home to a number of bird species, including the greylag goose and diving ducks, while its waters support the rare Orkney charr fish. On clear days the Isle of Lewis and mainland Scotland can be observed from the cliffs where Mealt Waterfall lies.
