The smallest of St Ives' beaches, Porthgwidden stretches just 0.8 km (0.5 mi) in length. Around 80 m of sand is exposed at high tide, with significantly more golden, soft sand revealed as the tide retreats. The waters are safe for bathing and the beach sheltered from northerly winds by St Ives Island.
