Upper and Lower Roddlesworth Reservoirs are part of the Rivington reservoir chain, built to supply water to Liverpool in the 19th century. The reservoirs are surrounded by dense woodland, making for pleasant walking – there are footpaths on either side of the reservoir and a 5.5 km (3.7 mi) walk will take you through the wooded area, past waterfalls on a nearby stream and circling the two reservoirs. Freshwater coarse and trout angling is available in both stretches of water. Upper Roddlesworth is considered the more scenic of the two.
