About Saltdean Beach

Backed by high chalk cliffs, Saltdean Beach is mainly shingle between rock groynes. A promenade, Undercliff Walk, runs from Saltdean to Brighton, with a designated cycle path. This promenade was built as part of the coastal defences to help combat erosion and rejuvenate the beach. The outgoing tide leaves rock pools to explore. Activities include swimming (a local sea swimming group meets weekly), canoeing, scuba diving, surfing and sailing. There is a local water sports centre for equipment hire and an indoor lido locally. The beach is Marine Conservation Society Recommended.
