This gently sloping, shingle beach has sand at low tide and plenty of rock pools to explore. Zoning is in place for water sports, which include sailing and wind surfing; other activities include swimming and fishing. The palm tree-lined promenade stretches for around 8km (5mi) and is centred round an historic pier, from which fishing is possible. The beach itself is Marine Conservation Society Recommended. A coastal cycle route runs from Worthing to Shoreham-by-Sea (11 km / 7 mi), with beautiful coastal scenery on one side and the South Downs National Park on the other.
