About Tewet Tarn

About Tewet Tarn

Tewet Tarn lies at the northern end of St John’s in the Vale on the small hill of Low Rigg, which itself is slightly to the north of its higher neighbour, High Rigg. The tarn is a shallow pool resting on a shelf overshadowed by Blencathra, which in fine weather is impressively reflected in its waters.  The tarn is often visited by those en route to the summit of High Rigg. A footpath runs alongside it, but the south and west edges are bordered by marshy ground, so access to the water’s edge can be problematic from these angles for those wanting to fish for perch, rainbow and brown trout.
