Weir Wood is a 2.4 km (1.5 mi) reservoir on the north-western edges of Ashdown Forest. The western end is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest for its important bird and insect populations. Birds include kingfisher and teal swifts, as well as a heronry homing 12 breeding pairs. The site is also a winter refuge for variety of wildfowl. Weir Wood Sailing Club is a major user of the remainder of the site, providing training and sailing all year round. This reservoir is also a popular spot for coarse fishing, by day ticket or season ticket. Swimming events are held here too.
