About Whin Rigg

About Whin Rigg

Together with Illgill Head, Whin Rigg’s north-western flank plunges dramatically down into the lake below in a geological feature known as the Wastwater Screes. Whin Rigg itself stands at an elevation of 535 m (1,755 ft) and has a prominence of around 58 m (190 ft). It is linked to the higher Illgill Head by a ridge path which passes two peaty tarns en route and has spectacular views down into the crags and gullies below. The best feature of the summit is the view across Wastwater. Ascents can begin from Nether Wasdale in Wasdale or Eskdale Green in Eskdale.
