About Mallyan Spout

Mallyan Spout is a waterfall located in the village of Goathland in North Yorkshire, England. With a vertical drop of 70 ft (21.5 m), it is the tallest waterfall in the North York Moors. The fall is situated on West Beck, which flows from the moorland above Goathland and is fed by several springs. The beck winds its way into New Wath Scar, a steep-sided ravine carved out of sandstone over thousands of years due to the action of water.

The best moment to see Mallyan Spout is just after a spell of wet weather, ideally in winter or early spring when there are no leaves to block your view. The waterfall is accessible via a pathway behind the Mallyan Spout Hotel (not suited for wheelchairs). Caution is needed, the path can be slippery when wet. The trail even goes under the waterfall and takes you through Scar Wood, which is protected by the Woodland Trust.

The pool at the base of the fall is used for wild swimming and paddle.
